Haroon Mahmood

Haroon Mahmood, a native of Pakistan, was a devoted husband and father of two children aged 13 and 11. Haroon had earned doctoral degree and was working as an assistant academic director of Canterbusy College, a private school for English language and business students.

Sueann Wang, a colleague at Canterbury College described Haroon as, “a very, very gentle, good person.” She remembered that on that Friday, he was worried about leaving work in case he was needed but she had suggested him to go to the mosque.
A week before the incident, the family had confirmed their tickets to visit Canada to visit some family.

The Crescent Alumni Association had written the following Tribute to Dr. Haroon Mahmood. “An alumnus of our school (1994 batch) Mr Haroon Mahmood, doing PhD in Lincoln University Christchurch, embraced Shahadat in last day terrorist attack on Masjid. May Allah grant him place in higher gardens of Jannah. Our prayers are with bereaved family.”
